“Look around and be distressed.
Look inside and be depressed.
Look at Jesus and be at rest.”
-Corrie Ten Boom
Don’t let what you are worried about blur your vision of what He’s showing you. Wash the mud from your eyes. You once were blind but now you see. Focus on Christ!
“He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.””
Psalms 46:10 NIV
The Hebrew word for still is raphah. It means to sink down and to relax. It means to cease striving. In other words, relax and stop trying to figure things out. Stop leaning on your own understanding. Realize that God is God. His ways are higher and He already has all the answers.
“Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.”
Jeremiah 33:3 ESV
Check the posture of your heart. Instead of looking to Jesus for what you can get out of Him. Long to spend time with Him. Sit at His feet and let Him teach you what He wants to teach you.
In order to have visions, erase what you think you know of what Jesus looks like. Let the Holy Spirit give you free-flowing visions instead of focusing on a painting of Jesus Christ or the cross or a crucifix. These items will interrupt the flow of the Holy Spirit.
“For he grew up before him like a young plant, and like a root out of dry ground; he had no form or majesty that we should look at him, and no beauty that we should desire him.”
Isaiah 53:2 ESV
“Then I turned to see the voice that was speaking to me, and on turning I saw seven golden lampstands, and in the midst of the lampstands one like a son of man, clothed with a long robe and with a golden sash around his chest. The hairs of his head were white, like white wool, like snow. His eyes were like a flame of fire, his feet were like burnished bronze, refined in a furnace, and his voice was like the roar of many waters. In his right hand he held seven stars, from his mouth came a sharp two-edged sword, and his face was like the sun shining in full strength.”
Revelation 1:12-16 ESV
““You shall have no other gods before me.”
Exodus 20:3 ESV
““You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me,”
Exodus 20:4-5 ESV
Anything that you ascribe power or faith to in place of God’s Spirit is an idol. Get rid of it. God is Spirit, not an object. He doesn’t like to be objectified. The power isn’t in objects. The power is in the atoning blood of Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit. God is all-powerful, all-knowing, and omnipresent. He cannot be confined to an object and He will not be relegated to a good luck charm.
It isn’t that art or sculptures are bad. It is the belief in a lie that an object has power that makes something a cursed object. Ask God if you have put faith in an object or objectified Him in any way.
A little angel statue that you think prays over you or brings you luck or protects your home is a cursed object. A photo of a cross is just a photo of a cross. A painting that you think holds the spirit of Christ is an abomination. He doesn’t look like that and He isn’t confined to it. Jesus is the Word of God. The Word of God is the sword of the spirit.
This will open up your heart and mind to visions of Jesus Christ as the risen KING!!!!
Whatever God shows you, treasure it up in your heart. Some things are meant to be shared and somethings are too intimate to share. Ask God for wisdom to know the difference.
“But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart.”
Luke 2:19 ESV
Don’t be taken in by other people’s visions. Set your heart towards Christ to have your own visions to grow deeper in your own relationship with Christ.
“Let no one disqualify you, insisting on asceticism and worship of angels, going on in detail about visions, puffed up without reason by his sensuous mind,”
Colossians 2:18 ESV
Dreams can be processing, demonic, or prophetic.
Processing dreams are just brain activity. We are thinking creatures. We have pizza dreams. We have anxious dreams. PTSD dreams are because we need healing in our waking life. PTSD certainly affects veterans but it is not limited to war veterans. PTSD can result from any kind of trauma.
Prophetic dreams may bring up the past because something needs healing from the past, but they won’t make us constantly relive the past. The Holy Spirit’s role is to remind us what Jesus says in His word. Jesus is the Word.
“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.”
John 14:26 ESV
Be careful not to dismiss warning dreams as demonic. Just because it may seem a little creepy doesn’t necessarily mean it is demonic. The devil will not announce himself or warn you about what he is trying to do. He is sneaky. So if you have a dream about a snake, it is generally the Holy Spirit warning you about a spiritual attack.
Be careful what you say. The enemy can’t read our minds, but he can hear us.
“For who knows a person’s thoughts except the spirit of that person, which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.”
1 Corinthians 2:11 ESV
Demonic dreams tend to either entice you or scare you. It may be that you have opened a door in your spiritual heart (your mind) through believing a lie or through sin, but it may just be counter attack warfare. The only way to know is to ask God. He will answer you by the power of the Holy Spirit. The Light has overcome the darkness. He’s sovereign over the warfare and He goes ahead of you. The battle belongs to the Lord.
If you rebuke a demon in your dream it is just as good as rebuking it in your waking hours and may be necessary.
Jezebel is the spirit that wants to kill and silence the prophets.
She wants the church to commit adultery on God through idolatry, sexual immorality, and by silencing His prophets. She wants to pervert the things of God, including the Holy Spirit fruit and gifts. (Revelation 2, see notes below)
The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. Revelation 19:10
Warning dreams are to prepare you, change your heart, expose the enemy, or to intercede in prayer for someone.
“But I have this against you: that you tolerate the woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess [claiming to be inspired], and who is teaching and leading astray my servants and beguiling them into practicing sexual vice and eating food sacrificed to idols. [I Kings 16:31; II Kings 9:22, 30.]”
Revelation 2:20 AMPC
“I gave her time to repent, but she has no desire to repent of her immorality [symbolic of idolatry] and refuses to do so. Take note: I will throw her on a bed [of anguish], and those who commit adultery with her [her paramours] I will bring down to pressing distress and severe affliction, unless they turn away their minds from conduct [such as] hers and repent of their doings.”
Revelation 2:21-22 AMPC
“As if it had been a light thing for Ahab to walk in the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, he took for a wife Jezebel daughter of Ethbaal king of the Sidonians, and served Baal and worshiped him. He erected an altar for Baal in the house of Baal which he built in Samaria. And Ahab made an Asherah [idolatrous symbol of the goddess Asherah]. Ahab did more to provoke the Lord, the God of Israel, to anger than all the kings of Israel before him.”
1 Kings 16:31-33 AMPC
“And when Joram saw Jehu, he said, “Is it peace, Jehu?” He answered, “What peace can there be, so long as the whorings and the sorceries of your mother Jezebel are so many?””
2 Kings 9:22 ESV
“Has it not been told my lord what I did when Jezebel killed the prophets of the Lord, how I hid a hundred men of the Lord’s prophets by fifties in a cave and fed them with bread and water?”
1 Kings 18:13 ESV
Every vision and dream is a diving board to dive in deeper with God and receive more revelation, impartation, and application. You use a diving board to dive in deeper with God. Don’t keep chasing more diving boards to confirm the diving board God already gave you. Steward your dreams and visions with God to dive into a more intimate relationship with God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
